General questions


What is EDIS?
EDIS is a repository for electronic dissertations of the University of St. Gallen. Since 2001, it offers the possibility of publishing electronically created dissertations on the web, so that a specific search is possible.


Is it possible to make changes or even delete documents after publication in EDIS?
No, it is not possible to alter or delete documents.


How long will the documents be available online?
There is no temporal limitation intended. Neither the memory requirements nor the capacity of the search engine suggest a limit. The electronic archive is available 24 hours.


Are publications in EDIS citable?
Publications in EDIS are in principle equal to conventional publications and may be cited. Every publication in EDIS has a permanent link that can be used for citations. To assist you when citing electronic publications we refer to our instructions for citations

How can I have a look at the documents?
The format of the documents in EDIS is PDF. For reading purposes, you need the Acrobat Reader that should be installed in the browser as plug-in. In this case, the PDF appears within the browser window. Otherwise the browser can be configured in a way that the Acrobat Reader opens the document automatically in a new window.


Is it possible to print the documents?
The documents can be printed by means of the Acrobat Reader.


Is it possible that documents can be copied and misused by others?
The documents can be copied to local computers. As with other documents, misuse (e.g. plagiarism) may happen but it certainly requires criminal energy.


Who has access to the dissertation?
The theses are accessible worldwide, i.e. everybody has access. Either you can access the theses via the EDIS database or via a search engine (e.g. Google) if you search with keywords or names.

Which documents can be published in EDIS?
The theses of the University of St. Gallen can be published in EDIS since 2001.


How do I get access to EDIS ?
You do not need a login to search in EDIS.
For submitting your thesis you can gain access with your user name and your HSG-password.
